How Can I use Breathing to Meditate more effectively

The purpose of meditation is to calm the mind and develop inner peace. By blending out distractions and focusing our mind, we can make our mind clear and lucid. Breathe naturally and focus on the sensation, becoming aware of how busy the mind is. Do not focus on all of the mind's thoughts, but focus on the sensation of breath until the mind settles.

  1. Sit comfortably on a chair or on the floor.
  2. Close your eyes and quiet your mind.
  3. Breathe in through the nose. Focus on the sensation of the air passing through the nose.
  4. Exhale through the mouth and feel the sensation of the air passing over your lips.
  5. Repeat until all your notice is the feeling of your breath. Concentrate on that feeling and do not allow yourself to be distracted by thoughts or external stimuli.

The aim is to experience a sense of inner peace and relaxation. Do not attempt to control the breath during this exercise, but let it flow naturally. You will feel refreshed and lucid. Even though breathing meditation is only a preliminary stage of meditation, it can be quite powerful.
