In case you didn’t hear, this last weekend the Saagara Team packed into a Honda Pilot SUV (it was a pretty tight squeeze) and rolled off to New York City to take part in the New York Maker Faire.  After attending an exciting opening event hosted by CNET and Red Bull (and a sweet performance by ArcAttack!), the Faire opened to the public on a beautiful Saturday morning.

The Saagara Team

We were one of 500 other “Makers” who had come to present at the Faire armed with a series of contraptions ranging from the simple and practical, to the complex and potentially life-threatening (i.e. the rocket-powered carnival rides), and everywhere in-between.  Nearby our exhibition our new friends CW&T had a neat little game which required that you start a timer and stop it as close to 10.000 seconds as possible (without looking!).  Across the hall another local Ann Arbor resident, Mike Flynn, was mystefying everybody in sight with his super cool magnetoscope, and those were just a couple of the exhibits housed both inside and outside the impressively large New York Science Hall.

At our exhibit, we showed off the new version of  our app “Health through Breath: Pranayama” by utilizing the new iPad exclusive VGA output feature to connect to a flat-screen monitor and a set of speakers playing our new “Nature” musical style. Meanwhile, our highly scientific lung machine provided a hands-on demonstration of what happens inside the chest cavity as you engage in various types of breathing.  For the kids, we helped them create their own model lungs inside plastic cups using straws and balloons.

Despite being a little out of the way, we still got a good number of people stopping by to check us out.  We handed out a lot of information, gave away a few of our new t-shirts (which will hopefully be available to buy online before too long), and at least on my part, talked until we nearly lost our voices!  As if that wasn’t enough, it was made that much better when they handed us that blue ribbon and told us that we were among those selected for the Editor’s Choice Award!

We met some great people who were interested in working with Saagara or otherwise spreading awareness of the company and what we’re doing.  Ultimately, it was time well-spent.  You can check out some of the pictures we took during the event below:

Hopefully we can go back again next year!
